Looks can be deceiving. It looks like he's right next to it - in reality, we were still at least a mile away.

This is cool (No pun intended. Ok, ya got me...it was intended). Where was this shot? I've taken a few glaciology and glacial geology classes in school, but never got to see an actual glacier, just their effects on the landscape after they've retreated. Very interesting how the distance is compressed.

@Russ: This was taken at Iceland's Vatnajökull - the largest glacier in Europe. I was amazed at how close the glacier seemed, but at how far it actually was from us.
